Serious status of Japanese Pacific saury fishery in 2017 and change in formation of fishing grounds since 2010

In 2017, the fishing season for Japanese Pacific saury (PS) fishery using stick-held dip net started on 10th August. Total landing toward the end of August exceeded that of the same period in 2016, however, the catch became very poor from September. Total catch until 20th October was 39 thousand metric ton (MT). This is the lowest record since 1963. Poor catch seems to be resulted from the decline of PS biomass in 2017.
