Yearbook 2017

The North Pacific Fisheries Commission has released the online addition of the second NPFC Yearbook covering the Commission's major activities in 2017.

This Yearbook, as Chairman Kenji Kagawa states in the Foreword to the volume, addresses "various issues faced by the Commission, the main one being the sustainable management of the fishery resources and the protection of the ecosystems in which these resources occur".

SC Meeting in Tokyo 2018

The Russian Federation hosted the first meeting of the Technical Working Group on Chub Mackerel Stock Assessment (TWG CMSA01) and the second meeting of the Technical Working Group on Pacific Saury Stock Assessment (TWG PSSA02) at the Hyundai Hotel, Vladivostok. The third Commission Meeting of the North Pacific Fisheries Commission was held in Sapporo, Japan from 13 to 15 July 2017, preceded by the second Meeting of the NPFC Compliance and Technical Committee (TCC) from 10 to 12 July and the first meeting of the NPFC Finance and Administration Committee (FAC).

Vanuatu becomes a member

The Republic of Vanuatu became a full member of the NPFC on 11 June 2017.

The Republic of Korea, the Depositary of the Convention, notified the NPFC Secretariat that Vanuatu had deposited its instrument of ratification of the NPFC Convention on 12 May 2017 and consequently the Convention would become effective for Vanuatu as of 11 June 2017 in accordance with the Paragraph 3 of Article 25 of the Convention.

The United States of America became a full member of the NPFC on 18th February 2017. 

The Republic of Korea, the Depositary of the Convention, notified the NPFC Secretariat that the USA had deposited its instrument of ratification of the NPFC Convention on 19 January 2017 and consequently the Convention would become effective for the USA as of 18 February 2017 in accordance with the Paragraph 3 of Article 25 of the Convention.
