NPFC HSBI Covid-19 Guidelines

On 31 August 2020, the NPFC TCC Chair circulated a letter to TCC Focal Points and co-leads for the Small Working Group for Operations requesting the collation and comparison of domestic COVID-19 mitigation strategies and policies as they relate to High Seas Boarding and Inspection (HSBI).


Yearbook 2020

The North Pacific Fisheries Commission has released the online version of the fifth yearbook covering the Commission's major activities in 2020.

According to Chairman Vladimir Belyaev: "2020 was a remarkably challenging year to all of us... Despite the difficulties, our Members have maintained their strong commitment to the conservation and management of high seas fisheries resources and protection of marine ecosystems."


COM06 Virtual Meeting

The 6th Annual Meeting of the NPFC took place from 23 to 25 February 2021 by video conferencing, which was chaired by Dr. Vladimir Belyaev (Russia) and preceded by the Technical and Compliance Committee (TCC) Meeting from 18 to 20 February and the Finance and Administration Committee (FAC) Meeting on 21 February. The event was attended by around 120 participants from eight Members and 10 observer groups.

NPFC Annual Meetings 18th to 25th February 2021

The North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) through its Heads of Delegations Virtual Meeting agreed to hold the NPFC Annual Meetings from the 18th to the 25th of February 2021. The Technical and Compliance Committee Meeting will be held from 18th to 20th, the Finance and Administration Committee Meting on the 22nd and the Commission Meeting from 23rd to 25th.

Members have decided to hold the meetings virtually.

NPFC Yearbook 2019 now available

The North Pacific Fisheries Commission has released the online addition of the fourth yearbook covering the Commission's major activities in 2019.

This yearbook, as Chairman Vladimir Belyaev states in the Foreword to the volume, "summarizes our efforts for the past year reflecting our strong commitment in ensuring the long-term conservation and sustainable use of our fisheries resources within the Convention Area in the high seas of the North Pacific."

NPFC SC Intersessional Meeting web conference

The NPFC Scientific Committee and its subsidiary bodies, Technical Working Group on Chub Mackerel Stock Assessment, Small Scientific Committee on Bottom Fish and Marine Ecosystems, and Small Scientific Committee on Pacific Saury, held virtual meetings on 27 May – 4 June 2020. The North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) and the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) have adopted a comprehensive framework for enhanced scientific collaboration in the North Pacific.
